Marketing Podcasts Worth a Listen

After several of my friends and colleagues suggested that I should be listening to podcasts, I finally decided to check out what I missing.  Originally debuting in 2005, podcasts are by no means new, but have gained a lot of traction lately.  So yes, I’m eight years late to the party.  But better late than never, right?

In the last few weeks, I’ve sampled several podcasts covering a wide range of topics. But for the purpose of this blog, here are the best marketing-related podcasts that made my short list:

The “UnPodcast” by Scott Stratten and Alison Kramer

I was first drawn to this one because I’m an avid follower follower of @unmarketing on Twitter. Scott and Alison present interesting dialogue on a variety of marketing topics from Twitter to branding to public speaking. Their latest episode, No Tweets are Your Own, touches on the HR/PR relationship in regards to Twitter.

Seth Godin’s Start Up School

This podcast is geared towards business startups, so while it’s not directly marketing, Seth Godin is a marketing God in my eyes. His words are thought-provoking and I find this series to be very inspiring. It doesn’t have to be a step-by-step guide to spark good ideas in a creative marketer.

NPR 7AM News Summary

News? You bet. Being a good marketer also means you know what is going on in the world. This quick podcast will tell you what you need to know in five minutes. If I don’t have time to catch the news before I leave for work, this is a great one to listen to during my commute on the train/bus.

The Accidental Creative by Todd Henry

@toddhenry is the author of Die Empty. And similar to Godin’s podcast mentioned above, it may not always be directly about marketing. And that’s ok in my book. Overall – it’s about doing your job better.

Hmm. Looking back at this list makes it seem like maybe it should have been titled “Podcasts for marketers, that aren’t necessarily about marketing, worth a listen.” This wraps up what I’ve been listening to so far, but I’m sure there will be a second installment of this topic as I’m bound to come across plenty more great content. What else are you guys listening to? Share below…I’d love to know!
